Cognitive Pilot Honored for Overall Harvesting Innovation of the Year at AgTech Breakthrough Awards

Cognitive Pilot, an autonomous driving technology joint venture of Russia’s Sberbank and Cognitive Technologies group, a global technology company supporting the transportation and agriculture sectors with innovative software, hardware, and artificial intelligence (AI) backed systems; has been awarded ‘Overall Harvesting Innovation of the Year’ at the AgTech Breakthrough Awards. Conducted by AgTech Breakthrough, a leading market intelligence organization that recognizes the top companies, technologies, and products in the global AgTech market, the awards program is in its inaugural year.

The Cognitive Agro Pilot is an AI-based autonomous driving system for agricultural machinery that increases the efficiency of combine harvesters by up to 25%, cuts fuel costs, and prevents accidents on the field. The innovative system provides real-time situational awareness to ensure accurate autonomous driving and agriculture operations. Cognitive Agro Pilot detects and maneuvers around obstacles and hazards in the field using just one camera, seeing the environment precisely without the use of satellite signals or wireless connections.

“Our autonomous driving system for agricultural machinery helps farmers harvest precisely along crop rows and edges,” comments Olga Uskova, CEO of Cognitive Pilot. “By letting the operator focus not on driving, but on controlling and monitoring other harvesting parameters, and preventing accidents, we can help farmers improve crop yields, minimize machinery downtimes, and reduce harvesting timelines. The Cognitive Agro Pilot is simple and cost-effective to implement and can be used anywhere in the world because it’s not dependent on internet connection or GPS satellite systems.”

The innovative Cognitive Agro Pilot crop-harvesting assistant has shown a reduction in direct crop losses by 8-13%, as the AI-backed technology reduces the impact of human factors on crop yields and improves efficiencies in all harvesting factors. With automated breaking and speed control technology, combined with a maximum deviation from set trajectory of 15 centimeters, the Cognitive Agro Pilot is a precision tool helping farmers improve crop yields and reduce fuel consumption during harvesting up to 5%.

The mission of the AgTech Breakthrough Awards is to honor excellence and recognize innovation in a range of agricultural and food technology categories, including Internet-of-Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) based agricultural technologies, farm management, indoor farming, food quality, data analytics and many more. This year’s program attracted more than 1,750 nominations from over 15 different countries throughout the world.

“Using groundbreaking autonomous driving technology, Cognitive Pilot is giving the agriculture industry a simple, cost-effective solution to help improve efficiencies and reduce costs due to machinery accidents and resulting downtimes,” said Bryan Vaughn, Managing Director of AgTech Breakthrough Awards. “We are proud to select Cognitive Agro Pilot crop-harvesting technology as Overall Harvesting Innovation of the Year for the innovative use of AI to produce big results for farmers.”
